One day I found myself at a point where I was satisfied enough with my portraits. Now I knew how to draw realistic eyes that stare at you all the time. But I had learned something about myself too. I wasn't able to follow the instructions in books specializing on drawing.
I've tried to start a portrait with a circle dividing it into several parts for the eyes, ears, mouth and so on. But in that way the result was always the same: A creature between Quasimodo and Frankenstein's monster. So I ignored all those instructions and found my own and therefore best way to draw a portrait. First I start with the left eye, then the right one. Soon after that the nose and mouth follows. Through shading, I'm able to create the shape of the head, ears and hair (the hairs are always the worst for me... probably because there are so many of them ;) ).
Mostly I portray people I like. I love movies and series, so I concentrated on actors. I'd like to show them my respect and appreciation in that way.
Besides of the portraits I wanted to practice other things. So I tried to draw one of the most difficult parts of the human body: The hand. At the beginning it was nearly impossible for me to get it right, because the secret of drawing realistic hands are the shades. Therefore, my first so called hands were a disaster. So I quit trying for many months before I gave it a try one more time and was successful!
Besides of portraits or human body parts I'd practiced many other subjects: Animals, plants and objects. Sometimes I got ideas for which I have no explanation what so ever. They just popped up into my head, and so I started drawing my new idea. The pictures below have no personal meaning or message in any way. They're just experiments for practicing different kinds of representations. For instance, one day I wanted to know how to draw water. Or I wanted to know how to draw with white crayon on black paper. You can see the results below.
Sometimes I get orders. Especially orders for tattoos are the most fun to me. It's a challenge to get the taste and imaginations of my customer right. And it's an honor to know, that someone is going to have one of my pictures under the skin forever.
