I can do it otherwise...

I mostly draw, but I also like to do handicraft. As a child I would make own cards for different occasions. Then there were improvised solutions for my everyday life. And of course there were things I've always wanted to try.

So I combined my crafting skills, trained hand eye coordination and imagination to grant myself my own wishes.

Manaia

Testbild 1 When I was a child I had a favorite television show: Hercules - A legendary journey. With this show I become interested in Greek Mythology, actors and movies.
My first favorite actor starred in Hercules of course: Michael Hurst. I was able to identify myself with his role. But his necklace, the Manaia, fascinated me the most and never let go until today.
Unfortunately those necklaces are very expensive, because those are handcrafted (in New Zealand). And so, I used my handicraft skills and decided to create my own necklace out of ebony using a sharp knife and a lot of abrasive paper. It never left my neck since.

The Manaia is derived of the Maori and is a symbol of protection. It has the head of a bird, body of a man and tail of a fish. It symbolizes the balance between heaven, earth and water and is a guardian against evil.

Barn owl

One thing I've always wanted to try was carving. But I couldn't think of a right motive. One day I chose to carve my favorite animal: An owl. I didn't want to make it to hard at the beginning, and so I specified my choice and decided to carve the silent barn owl.

It took a lot of time, but finally the rectangular block became a (slightly square) owl. At first, it wasn't easy to think in 3D instead of 2D (my usual artwork), but I managed to cross another thing of my bucket list.

Voodoo doll

Testbild 1 Another point on bucket list was to own a voodoo doll. I don't believe in the mythical forces of a voodoo doll, nevertheless I've always wanted to have one.
And so I combined my wish with another craftsmanship: sewing.
I didn't use the machine, but needle and thread instead.
